2020 Massachusetts Student Essay Contest Announced

On behalf of the Cooperative Credit Union Association (CCUA), Somerville’s Credit Union is pleased to announce the 2020 Massachusetts Credit Unions Student Essay Contest for seventh and eighth grade students, the 30th year the CCUA is holding this annual contest.

Students in seventh and eighth grade are asked to write an essay in 250 words or less on the following topic:

If you were the CEO of your local credit union, what would you have your credit union do to show that you truly believe in the “People Helping People” philosophy of the credit union movement?

Eight winning essays will be chosen from among all competing Massachusetts credit unions. The first prize winner will receive $500. The seven finalists will each receive $250. In addition to the eight winning essays, there will be several honorable mention winners who will each receive $50. There will be an awards ceremony to honor the contest winners in the spring.

2020 College Scholarship Program Announced

With no let-up in sight for the increasing cost of college tuition, many students and families could stand some relief. The Cooperative Credit Union Association (CCUA) will help lighten that load a bit by awarding six $1,500 scholarships through its 2020 College Scholarship Program.

The contest is open to high school seniors who will be enrolled in undergraduate college degree programs during the 2020-2021 academic year. Applicants, or their parents or guardians, must be members of the sponsoring credit unions and the credit unions must be members in good standing with CCUA.

To enter, each student must write and submit a typewritten essay of up to 250 words about a person or event that has inspired his or her life and outlook. Click HERE for other eligibility requirements.
