Established on May 28, 1941, Somerville Municipal Federal Credit Union was started by people who were committed to helping their fellow City of Somerville employees save for retirement in an age when pensions were non-existent.

Check Cashing Policy

We cash personal checks only when the member has funds available to cover the amount or if the check is drawn on the credit union and we know there are sufficient funds available.

This applies to members of Somerville Municipal Federal Credit Union.

We will cash Credit Union members checks payable to non-members only when:

The payee has proper identification
The member’s signature has been verified
The member has been called if the check is for $500 or more
The member has sufficient collected funds on deposit

Note! We do not accept third party checks or money orders.

I arrived at the front doors at the same moment the employee was going to lock the door. He was happy to let me in to do my transaction while being courteous and helpful. They literally held the door open for me, where can you get that service?
